July 8
Today was hard.
Felt sick the entire day.
Climbing up Douglas Pass, 8268 feet, was incredibly slow.
Took from eight in the morning till four in the afternoon to reach the summit.
Got to the top, off the bike and took a rest, look around and deep breath.
Surveying the down hill side, appeared as if it was a pretty good grade down through the curves and meanderings of the highway to the next town.
Loma.
Where I would turn onto highway six and make my way toward Montrose.
My aspirations for the day were drawn and quartered as I got to Loma about seven thirty.
Met two young men who had made their way from Dallas up to Colorado.
One was from Saint Petersburg Florida and the other was from Dallas.
They joined up and are continuing their "wokabout" along the western states.
For all the time it took me to pedal up the pass, it took only three hours on the down hill to get to Loma and a half hour after that I was in Fruita.
Montrose will have to wait until tomorrow.
The word I would use to describe this day is demanding.
The day demanded every bit of my concentration to keep on the road.
It demanded all of my attention to keep from going off the road.
It demanded all of my perseverance to keep from quitting before I reached the summit.
It demanded that I steer and brake correctly on the downhills to Loma and Fruita.
Most of all, it demanded that I keep my focus, spiritually, mentally and physically on the Lord.
It was all about pedaling, pedaling and pedaling today.
Did not stop and talk to many people this day.
Guess it was a day for break through.
To conquer.
To win the battle set before me.
With that I will quit.
Continuing to joy in the journey.
D.
