How does one start a blog?
Guess I should tell the story of what this is all about.
My family and I used to minister in Papua New Guinea. Worked with the Maring people in the Jimi Valley. Worked on translation, literacy, community development and other areas to help the people.
Although I am no longer involved with Wycliffe Bible Translators, I am still prayerfully involved with the program and people. I long and desire to see the New Testament completed and to have the people read and understand the Word of God!
Anselm and Martin, along with others on the translation team, are still diligently working on completing the New Testament.
For the last fifteen or so years, after an accident on the airstrip in Koinambe, which took their mother to glory with Jesus, we have been living in the States. My four children have grown up and left home. They are certainly a joy to my heart.
Along with a friend, we have been building a home and "retreat" area in the mountains of north central Washington state.
While visiting family a month and half ago, I had a dream.
A dream that combined both bicycling and ministry.
I like to bicycle.
Or maybe I should say tricycle.
For the bike I ride is a three wheel recumbent bike.
I enjoy the freedom of rolling along at a leisurely eight to ten miles per hour along the byways between towns.
I delight in enjoying my time with the Lord while I pedal, think, and rejoice in all the goodness He has given me.
I am planning a long bicycle trip this summer for the benefit of the Maring translation program which is administered by Papua New Guinea Bible Translation Association.
The goal is a three thousand mile ride to raise finances, prayer, and knowledge of the ministry to the Maring.
In addition, half of what is raised on this adventure will go to help another ministry in PNG.
National Community Transformation Network (NCTN) and the Indigenous Prayer Network in Papua New Guinea.
A friend, Lyndsay Royer will prayerfully be leaving in May to help with writing content for the variety of printed and web material handled by NCTN, creating short clips and documentaries about the work that the LORD is doing in and through the ministry as well as creating printed material for the classes offered.
What will be raised on this bike adventure will be split between the two ministries talked of above.
Ten cents per mile.
Fifteen cents per mile.
Twenty cents per mile.
Whatever the Lord leads you to give, it will all go to benefit and help, in a tremendous way, these two ministries in PNG.
It will be a self supported bike trip. All my traveling, pedaling, will be supported by me.
But I would not have any adverse reaction or qualms to folk pedaling along if they want! Or if you know of homes, churches, places to stay along the way, as I will be camping, any suggestions would be helpful and appreciated. I am still finalizing the route.
Maybe you would like to do adventure with me and give/donate as a fellowship body.
Maybe you would like to join with another family to pray for this adventure.
Or if you want, you can give a one time donation to either ministry. By going to either site, Lyndsay's or PNGBTA, you can poke around, find out more and give.
I hold both ministries dear and precious to my heart.
The start date of this ride is June 2, 2015.
The end date of this ride is July 30, 2015
Two months to go 3000 miles.
An average of fifty miles per day.
Sure, one can go farther each day. But I want to take time to journal, take photos, talk with people. Share what the Lord has done in my life.
To enjoy as I pedal for PNG.
Encouragement and prayers are always appreciated.
So....
There you have it.
Who would like to come along on this crazy ride adventure to help get the WORD out to people in PNG?
Continuing to joy in the journey,
D.
